BEIDOU-CUP ADOLESCENTS SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION CONTEST (BD-CASTIC) AT DEWEY COLLEGE

Dewey coollege had the pleasure of hosting the 8th ceremony of the BD-CASTIC award ceremony on Friday, March 3rd. The BD-CASTIC Contest is a high level Youth Science Competition initiated by Peking University of China and supported by the Ministry of Education of China.

The contest is designed to encourage youths in the field of science to demonstrate innovation and practical ability. The contest provides a communication platform for youths who are interested in science and technology. The contest is jointly organized by the Office of Chinese Academic Exchange Center for Satellite Navigation, in Peking University. The contest has 8 divisions worldwide, 7 in China and 1 in North America.  The head office of the contest is in Beijing, China.

The North American division of the contest is led by Dewey College, located in Mississauga, Canada and is supported by professors from the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo and York University. The aim of the contest is to widely spread popular scientific knowledge through the BeiDou system, expand culture and communication channels while also developing a national science and technology communication platform for the youths.

A DAY AT NIAGARA FALLS!

img_3597Students at Dewey college have the chance to visit one of Nature’s Wonders:  Niagara Falls. The falls form the highest flow rate  of any waterfall in the world.  It has a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). The students get to enjoy an entire day filled with thrilling activities which consist of: Views of the Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls with Goat Island in the middle.  To add to the excitement, Niagara Falls now has a zip line which students have enjoyed throughout the years that the College has taken them to visit the Falls.

EXPLORE FALL IN THE MUSKOKAS! 

Muskoka goes from Georgian Bay to Lake Couchicing in the south, to Algonquin Provincial Park in the east.  It’s approximately 6475 sq km and has some 1600 lakes. Muskoka is a popular cottaging destination. Our students have the chance to take a trip to Muskoka during the fall season and experience the beauty that this destination has to offer.

At Dewey College, we like to celebrate Christmas and make it very fun for our students. Our students enjoy activities like building ginger bread houses and decorating them according to their diverse personality traits.
